However, the “logistics of the lodge” depend heavily on mastering the rhythm of Gauteng’s highways.

Navigating the Airport Divide

Whether you land at O.R. Tambo (JNB) or Lanseria (HLA), the secret to a stress-free arrival is timing. Both are roughly 50–55 km from the lodge, but the drive time can swing from 35 minutes to nearly two hours depending on the sun’s position.

• O.R. Tambo (The Hub): Located about 50 km south, the R21 is a straight shot to Pretoria.

  • Departure/Arrival Tip: Avoid the “commuter crush” (06:30–09:00 and 16:00–18:30). If your flight lands at 16:30, grab a coffee at the airport and wait until 18:30—you’ll likely arrive at the lodge at the same time as if you had sat in crawling traffic.

• Lanseria (The Boutique Choice): Often preferred for domestic hops (Cape Town/Durban), it’s about 54 km west via the N1/N21.

  • Departure/Arrival Tip: Lanseria is less congested than O.R. Tambo, but the N1 highway through Midrand is a notorious bottleneck. Mid-morning (10:00) or early afternoon (14:00) is the “sweet spot” for these transfers.
